LIMINAL SPACES
The Bolshezemelskaya tundra near Vorkuta, stretching beyond the Arctic Circle, is a unique example of liminal spaces. Here begins the transition from the familiar world to a silent and mysterious one. These spaces embody transitional states where nature and humanity clash under harsh conditions of existence. In the photographs, people are either absent or present only as images, aiming to show how powerfully nature can demonstrate humanity's place within it, dictating the terms of survival and way of life.
In this monotony and seemingly endless repetition, a constant struggle unfolds, revealing chthonic forces and mysticism. The overall picture of desolation and grayness becomes a backdrop for profound internal conflict, a yearning for self-knowledge, and even self-destruction.
The tundra landscapes are devoid of a familiar color palette. Here, the power of nature is felt like nowhere else, forcing us to contemplate our place in the greater world.
